| CHIP Mission Statement | ||||||
| The Children's Hospital HIV Program (CHIP) is committed to caring for infants, children, youth and pregnant women with HIV infection in a comprehensive, family-centered supportive manner. Care is also provided to infants exposed to HIV and to parents of HIV-infected children who would like to receive their care along with their children. The multidisciplinary CHIP team is dedicated to providing state-of-the-art care that meets the medical, social, psychological, developmental and nutritional needs of our HIV infected patients. | ||||||
| The program is affiliated with the National Institutes of Health as a research site for the Pediatric AIDS Clinical Trials Group. This affiliation assures access to the newest investigational drugs and to information about the most recent developments in the treatment of HIV disease. The CHIP team has developed cutting edge programs for screening and treating pregnant women with HIV in order to decrease transmission to the infant. | ||||||
| Programs are also underway to bring prevention, screening and care to at risk youth. The CHIP team is active in providing information to individuals, schools and community organizations because we believe that only through education will the community at large be able to accept and support HIV infected children, mothers and their families. | ||||||
